Evaluations and Neurologist Appointment

Isabelle has now been evaluated to help determine what kinds of therapy she may need. In talking with the behaviorist nurse on Wednesday she determined that Isabelle needs to be setup with a vision specialist in order for us to learn specific exercises to help her develop her vision, also she suggested an occupational therapist to help teach Isabelle how to use her right side more than she is at this time. She tends to favor her left side and use that hand more than she does the other. So hopefully sometime this week or next week we will get to start some therapy sessions to help improve on her skills.

We had an appointment with the neurologist Thursday for a 6 week evaluation since our July visit. I will say that this visit was a lot more helpful this time than the last. The nurse practitioner came in an evaluated Isabelle to begin with and went over everything that she was observing with us. She was really positive on the improvements that Isabelle has made. Isabelle was alert and responsive to her so that was a good thing. She noticed that Isabelle tends to hold her hands closed but that really is one of those things she might be doing it right now but in 20 minutes she’s got her hands open and moving around. She also stated that Isabelle is doing really well considering how hard her brain has been hit with everything she’s been through, and that she has seen babies that haven’t been through as much as Isabelle that are not doing as well. They adjusted her seizure medicine to try and control her seizures a little bit better, but her seizures seem to be affecting a small specific part of her brain and they don’t know if they will be able to completely control them. If her seizures where affecting a larger part of her brain then it would be easier to control with the medicine. They stated that they thought she needs to be setup with some therapy also to help her develop but that she seemed to be doing well. The doctor stated that he could see improvement in her from our first clinic visit (July) until now. They want her to develop more and watch her to see how she is progressing and go from there. We go back in December for our next visit.

I am just so thankful first of all to God for allowing her to show everyone how great he is, also to everyone who has been praying for her. I ask that you continue to pray for her and all the others that we do not even know that need God’s help. I hope you will watch the short video I have posted, it shows Isabelle chatting and I just love to hear her, the more I played it the more she would chat back. The doctors have told me that the communication part of her brain is what appeared to be missing but as it has been so many times on this journey God is showing us that they don’t know everything.
